How Do I Apply for a Campaign

Wondering how to express interest? Confused about bird blurbs/pitches? We'll walk you through each step to applying for your first campaign and crafting a stellar pitch.

  • How to Apply for a Campaign: Learn how to raise your hand and let a brand know you're interested in participating in a campaign.

  • Writing a Bird Blurb: Gain tips and tricks for creating a compelling bird blurb or pitch for your next campaign.

How to Apply

In the Discover Campaigns section you can view all available campaigns in your area. New campaigns are added on a weekly basis, so be sure to check regularly.

  1. Log into your account and navigate to the Discover Campaigns section. If you've forgotten your password, use the 'forgot password' option to reset it.

  2. If you find a campaign that sparks your interest, click on "see details" to view more information. If you're new to Hummingbirds, look for the "Your First Step on Hummingbirds" campaign designed specifically for new users. This will help you get started and understand how the platform works.

  3. If the campaign resonates with you and you'd like to participate, simply scroll back up to the top and click the "I’m Interested" button.

  4. After you click the button, a prompt will appear asking you to share why you'd be a great fit for the campaign. We call this your 'Bird Blurb' or your pitch. This is your opportunity to tell the brand why you're excited about this particular campaign. Learn more about writing this section below.

  5. You may also be asked to answer a few required questions—like whether you’ve checked the store locator to confirm the product is available near you.

  6. After submitting, you'll see the campaign pop to your Interested dashboard in your My Campaigns. It'll remain here until you have been selected or the window for selection has passed.

  7. You have the option to remove your interest if you decide you don't want to be considered for this campaign any longer.

If you encounter any issues during the process, such as a website error preventing you from submitting your pitch, you can try to 'unexpress interest' and then apply again to resolve the issue.

Writing a Bird Blurb

Your Bird Blurb is also known as your pitch!

When you apply for a campaign, you have the opportunity to tell a brand why you're specifically excited about their campaign.

It's like sending a personal note to the brand and your chance to say "Hey, I love what you're doing, and here's why I'd be a great fit or how I think I can add value to it!"

In your pitch, you get to share your unique viewpoint, highlight how you vibe with the brand's values, or showcase the creative content ideas you have. It's like giving the brand a sneak peek into why you're a fantastic match for their campaign and how you can help make it a hit!

We recommend sharing things like:

  • How the brand or product fits naturally into your life
Share what feels authentic about the partnership. If you already use this product in your daily life, mention that!

  • One clear, realistic content idea
Help us picture how you might bring the campaign to life. The content inspiration in the campaign brief is there to spark ideas - not to limit you!

  • Evidence that you understand the brief
Referencing specific details (like the theme, retailer, or featured product) signals that you understand the requirements and are prepared to participate.

Here's a few Bird Blurb examples:

Example 1: With back-to-school around the corner, I’m already planning my weekly Target run for easy lunchbox staples. I regularly share realistic grocery hauls and meal prep ideas, so (Brand/Product) would fit naturally into my routine. I’d film a Reel during my Target trip and highlight how it helps simplify our school week.

Example 2: I regularly share simple, approachable skincare routines and products with my audience. Since I already shop at Ulta for my beauty staples, I’d create a ‘get ready with me’ Reel featuring (Brand/Product) and focus on first impressions, texture, and how it fits into my routine.

Example 3: I start every morning with coffee and often share those slow morning moments with my audience. I’d highlight (Brand/Product) as part of my daily routine and create a cozy kitchen Reel showing how I prepare it.

Due to the limited number of spots in each campaign—and the brand’s specific goals—you won’t always be selected the first time you apply. But don’t be discouraged! We have a course about this in The Charm called "Campaign Selection 101." Campaign selection is a matching process, not a scorecard. Some campaigns prioritize new creators, others returning ones. Some are designed for a specific life stage, purchasing behavior, or audience type.

If you haven’t gone through the course yet, we really encourage checking it out!
