How to Create an Instagram Reel
Why Brands Prefer Reels Over Static Posts
Many brands prefer (or require) Instagram Reels over static posts because Reels offer a more engaging and immersive way to tell a story. Unlike static images, Reels allow hummingbirds to showcase how a brand fits into their life, making the content feel more natural and authentic.
Reels also tend to get higher reach and engagement due to Instagram’s algorithm favoring video content. This means your content has a better chance of being seen by more people. Plus, brands are more likely to reshare and feature Reels that showcase their product in an engaging and creative way, giving you more visibility too!
Step 1: Open the Instagram App
Tap the + (plus) icon at the bottom of the screen.
Select Reel from the menu options.
Step 2: Record or Upload Video Clips
To record a clip: Press and hold the record button (the big circle at the bottom). You can release the button to stop recording and press again to record another clip.
To upload a clip: Tap the gallery icon in the bottom left corner and select a video from your camera roll.
Step 3: Edit Your Reel
Trim Clips: Adjust the length of each clip by dragging the ends.
Add Music: Tap the music note icon to search for and add a song.
Adjust Speed: Use the 1x button to slow down or speed up parts of your Reel.
Add Effects & Filters: Tap the smiley face (effects) icon to apply filters, text, or stickers.
Align Clips: Use the align tool to ensure smooth transitions between clips.
Using External Editing Apps
Many hummingbirds love using apps like CapCut or TikTok to create and edit their Reels before uploading to Instagram. This is totally fine—just make sure to remove any watermarks from these apps before posting to keep the content looking clean and professional.
You also want to ensure you export your videos in the correct aspect ratio (9:16 for Reels).
Step 4: Add Captions, Hashtags & Tags, Location
Tap Next when you're done editing.
Write a caption that describes your Reel.
Add hashtags to help people discover your content.
Tag other accounts by typing @ followed by their username.
Add a location to your Reel:
Tap Edit Reel.
Look for the Add Location option.
Search for and select the specific location you want to tag (e.g., Central Market).
Step 5: Share Your Reel
Choose where to share your Reel:
Reels Feed (recommended for more visibility)
Your Story (disappears after 24 hours)
Close Friends List
Tap Share, and you're done!
Best Practices for a Great Reel
✅ Showcase the brand within the first 5-6 seconds to immediately grab attention.
✅ Use good lighting to keep your video looking bright and clear.
✅ Ensure clips are sharp and not blurry for a professional appearance.
✅ Avoid overusing transitions between clips—keep it smooth and natural.
✅ Keep on-screen text and icons minimal, apart from closed captions, so the focus stays on the content.
✅ Use trending sounds to increase reach and engagement. Instagram often boosts posts that use popular sounds, helping you reach a wider audience.
✅ Encourage interaction by asking a question or adding a call to action (e.g., "Comment below!").
Now you're ready to create an amazing Instagram Reel! 🎬✨ Happy filming!
