Can I Share My In-Feed Reel to My Story? Does That Count Toward My Story Requirement?

Edited

You are absolutely welcome (and encouraged!) to share your in-feed post or Reel to your Instagram Story. It’s a great way to boost visibility and let your audience know you’ve got something new on your feed.

BUT — just resharing your post doesn’t count as fulfilling the Story requirement for a campaign.

Here’s Why:

  • People engage with Stories differently than they do with feed posts (we see you, story-only lurkers! 🙋‍♀️).

  • Brands want to reach both audiences — your feed and your stories.

  • Stories give you a chance to be more casual, real-time, and personality-forward. They’re great for showing the product in action, sharing a different POV, or reacting more personally to the experience.

What Counts as “Different” Story Content?

To meet campaign expectations:

  • Add at least one separate Story slide that talks about the brand or product directly — not just resharing your post.

  • Consider using:

    • A scene that didn’t make the final reel edit

    • A selfie or quick boomerang with the product

    • A fun behind-the-scenes clip

    • A poll, question box, or link sticker to drive engagement

Pro tip: Many hummingbirds have shared they usually share their post or reel to their Story and then add a few extra slides to give their audience more context and curiosity to go check out the full post. 🎯

TL;DR:

  • ✅ Share your post/reel to your Story = great for visibility!

  • ❌ Only resharing your reel = doesn’t meet Story requirements

  • ✅ Add separate brand-focused content = counts toward your campaign requirement
