Do I get extra compensation if a brand reposts or uses my content in their marketing materials or ads?
Short Answer
The perk you receive when participating in a campaign is the full amount you will receive whether or not the brand or Hummingbirds decide to reuse your content in marketing or advertising. This shared usage is part of how brands are able to offer campaigns to a wide range of creators on the platform. Reposting or using the content in marketing typically does not include additional compensation.
Why this is the case
When you participate in a campaign through Hummingbirds, you agree to the platform’s Terms & Conditions. As part of those terms, the brand partner and Hummingbirds retain the rights to use the content created through the campaign. By choosing to participate in a campaign, creators are agreeing to these usage terms for the content created as part of that campaign. These usage rights apply specifically to the content created for the campaign through the Hummingbirds platform.
This means the brand (or Hummingbirds) may reuse the content you create for Hummingbirds campaigns in a few different ways, such as:
Reposting your content on their social media accounts (posts, reels, stories, etc.)
Featuring your content on their website or product pages
Including clips or screenshots of your content in marketing materials
Using the content in email or digital promotions
Using your content in ads run from the brand or Hummingbirds account on various platforms
Showcasing campaign content when highlighting Hummingbirds creators and campaigns
Because these usage rights are included as part of the campaign exchange, reusing the content you create for a Hummingbirds campaign in marketing and advertising material does not come with additional compensation.
Why the Hummingbirds model works this way
Hummingbirds is designed to make it easier for creators and brands to connect.
Many of the brands on our platform genuinely want to work with creators of all sizes - beyond large influencers, but they don’t have the time or resources to manage hundreds of individual partnerships one-by-one. Our platform helps make those collaborations possible.
This approach gives creators the opportunity to:
Work with brands they might not otherwise have access to
Build their portfolio with real brand collaborations
Gain experience working with different products and campaigns
Grow relationships with brands over time
Making sure campaigns are the right fit for you
Before joining a campaign, it’s important to be comfortable with how content created through the campaign may be used.
As part of participating in a Hummingbirds campaign, both the brand and Hummingbirds retain the rights to reuse the content created for that campaign, as outlined above.
If you prefer partnerships where content usage is negotiated separately or where brands need to request permission each time they share or reuse your content, Hummingbirds campaigns may not always be the best fit for what you’re looking for - and that’s completely okay.
