Is it Safe to Connect My Instagram to Hummingbirds?

Absolutely. We understand that connecting your Instagram can feel like a big step — and we want you to know exactly what happens when you do, and why it’s safe.

To participate in campaigns on Hummingbirds, you’ll need a Professional Instagram account (either Creator or Business). This is a rule Meta (Instagram’s parent company) has for how third-party platforms like ours can connect to Instagram.

When you connect your Instagram, Meta requires us to request permission for certain features as part of their standard process — even if we don’t actually use them.

For example, one of the permissions is labeled “managing comments.” Here’s what it actually means in practice:

• We do not and cannot post, comment, or make any changes to your account.

• The connection is read-only, meaning we can only fetch your content — not edit, delete, or post anything.

• Your password stays securely within Instagram’s system — it is never shared with us.

So while it might say "manage," this is just the language Meta uses for a broad range of connection permissions. We totally understand being cautious — and that’s why we’ve built our platform to be as respectful, minimal, and secure as possible.

Only the essentials. Meta is strict about what any platform can access — and we are too.

When you connect your Instagram, here’s what we can see:

• Your recent Instagram posts

• Basic analytics on those posts, such as reach, likes, and engagement

That’s it.

What we cannot see or access:

• Your password

• Your private messages or DMs

• Any personal account info outside of what you explicitly approve

Yes — here’s why:

• Our Instagram integration was reviewed and approved by Meta’s official permissions team

• The connection is read-only — we can only see content you’ve already posted, not create or edit anything

• Your login is handled entirely through Instagram’s secure system, not through Hummingbirds
